    Those look really good and it looks like they would be impossible to screw up. Definitely saved this one.I'll be using it on my layout. One more point- I think maybe one more coffee should do it 🤭

    While a chop or miter saw is gross overkill for cutting foam, that technique is actually brilliant! I'm going to pull my saw down and start squaring up all the mongrel pieces of foam I have that don't have a square corner or straight edge! Perfect... The demo is for O scale... I've done this in HO and use a knife to scribe the lines, which makes for a finer, more appropriate (for HO scale) mortar joint. I just use thin piece of metal to expand the lines cut with a blade, which makes them more visible, but not as wide as a pencil or scribing tool would. You've got a great channel here!! One of about a dozen model train channels that I've watched that have far too few subscribers, compared to other not as good channels that have many times more subscribers.

    I've watched a few of your videos this morning... Great techniques!!! Sanding the dirt (or sand if that's what you use) is a great idea! Knocks down some of the particles that appear to nearly float and it really lightens up the surface of the dirt. Your bushes/vines video was fantastic too... My only question with both techniques. Do you find that the holding power of hair spray diminishes over time? I've used it in the past to make polyfiber bushes and found that over time, the hair spray dried out and the foam would fall off the polyfiber. I'm using the bushes on a pair of modules I occasionally take to shows, so they get bumped around. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong, or I could just be using the wrong hair spray.

    I was wondering how I might use my home made rust powder from 0000 steel wool & vinegar. I have my own can of hairspray and now I know how to build up the texture. Guess I could use Dull Coat over the top of everything. You didn't show any final coating, though. Thanks for posting. Cheers from eastern TN

      @tracksidescenery Месяц назад

      East TN, we love it down there. I don't know about the wool and vinegar, never tried that. I have never used a sealer or final coat over the weathering. I have tried it, but some of that stuff changes the final look. Never had a problem with any of the dust fouling locomotive wheels or anything and some of my layouts were train show portable.

    Joey Hi What is your opinion on sidewalks that continue in front of buildings? The buildings are on my industrial area. Thank you.

    • @tracksidescenery
      @tracksidescenery Месяц назад

      Hi Kevin, for sidewalks would much prefer using styrene. I have never done a video on that simply because everything I have modeled in the past on the channel didn't have areas that had sidewalks, curbs and that sort of thing.

    Is the right of way still owned by the RR? I would not want to hike this and risk trespassing if any of the RoW had reverted to the surrounding landowners. Also check out the ex-WM between Hendricks and Thomas, which is now a bike trail. You can ride it both ways or just go downhill and get a shuttle back up.

    Those rollers are genious! I'll be honest, I've been in HO almost 30 years and only recently realized the wheels could be moved along the axle. (Had a bunch of mystery derailments with one car and found it was out of gauge.)

    Amazing that the best track weathering technique is from a 10-year old video. I've watched dozens of track-weathering YT videos and liked this one best. I tested it on my Atlas o-scale layout and the results were absolutely stellar. I did make some minor changes to the technique though. Firstly, I prefer Pan Pastels in lieu of chalk as they're ready to use, not that expensive and go a long way. I also used Krylon Camouflage brown to initially spray the track instead of black. Spraying the track with an oil-based primer is critical because the chalk needs something to "bite", and this Krylon is one of the best primers you can get. I also found there was no need to mix the alcohol slurry rust chalks -- I just dusted the rails and tie plates directly using a mix of oxide read, burnt umber and black -- which sticks just as well as the alcohol slurry painted on. Anyway, it's a bit of work but the results are worth in and better than anything else I've seen. Thanks Joey!
